Turkish Spindle Answer: From The Email Archives
Q: How does the Tromp and Treadle Turkish Spindle work? I am not familiar with it. Thanks. – Sharon
A: It works the same as any turkish-style spindle. As you wind on your yarn, you go over one arm, and under the next two, so the winding keeps rotating around the arms, and creates a ball of yarn. When you want to remove the ball of yarn, you slide the arms and yarn off the shaft, and then slide the arms out of the yarn – first the skinny arm, then the thick arm. Viola! A ball of yarn, and your spindle is ready to be reassembled and spin the next ball.
