Made of hard maple, this beginner’s weaving loom comes fully assembled with a pre-warped heddle. A basic project is started on the loom, and is ready for weaving. We include enough “warp” to weave a 3 – 4 foot long strip of fabric, and enough “weft” to see how the loom works. To complete the starter project, the weaver will need to provide their own “weft” yarn, which can be almost anything (including yarn left over from other projects).
How the Beka 4 Inch Rigid Heddle Loom Works
The warp wraps around the block in the back, then slides into a slot to hold the warp taunt. The front beam is a clamp, much like you would see on a backstrap loom. Clamp the front of your warp, and weave away. When you want to advance your warp, unwrap some warp from the back block. Then open the front clamp and pull the finished weaving through until the warp is taut again. Clamp tight once more, and continue to weave.
The loom’s instructions move through how to weave the rest of the project, then go step-by-step through planning and starting another project.
Weaving can be started as soon as the loom is out of its box, just remember you will need to add your own yarn to continue weaving the entire warp! The Beka 4 Inch Rigid Heddle Loom is very similar to a backstrap loom or band weaving (with the exception of this weaving being kept under tension with a frame).
Weave projects up to 4″ wide X 3 yards long.
The assembled loom measures 6″ wide X 21-1/2″ long, and comes with one shuttle. Weight 3 lbs.
