Description

In stock and ready to ship! This economical wheel has always been a popular workhorse for schools and guilds. A double treadle wheel with single drive (scotch) tension, the Kiwi is kind to beginners, and easy to learn on.

Now updated to have a folding treadle for storage/transport, making it even more versatile! Also the new updated version has 3 whorl rations and a wood veneered wheel, a great visual improvement over the Kiwi 2.

This wheel will continue to grow with you, with optional whorls, bobbins, and flyers available (sold separately) that increase the range of yarns you can make, from very fine, to super bulky.

The double treadle and ball bearings allow for easy treadling and “hands-free” start. Treadles are mounted on polyurethane hinges for a smooth, quiet and comfortable heel-toe action. The stretchy drive cord does not require any adjustment as you change from one ratio to another and always maintains the correct tension.

Comes with a sliding hook flyer, built in Kate, 3 speed whorl with 5.5, 7.5 and 9.5:1 flyer ratios, and 3 large capacity bobbins.

The scotch tension allows easy control of the drafting process. The central flyer is convenient for right and left-handed spinners. The wheel is easy and quick to assemble with the Allen key supplied and the robust construction makes this an ideal wheel for individuals, schools and clubs. The wheel itself is made of MDF, a high-density durable wood product with a real wood veneer.

The Ashford Kiwi comes as a kit wheel — that is, unassembled, with illustrated assembly instructions. We are only an email away if you have questions!
